Getting There Da Nang International Airport

This year’s conference will be held just outside the vibrant, historical city of Da Nang, based at the InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort.

The commercial and educational centre of Central Vietnam, Da Nang is a perfect mixture of beautiful beaches, bustling port, forested hillsides and historical landmarks.  Fun fact: Its present name is generally agreed to be a Vietnamese adaptation of the Cham words da nak, meaning “opening of a large river” and its origins date back to the ancient kingdom of Champa, established in 192 AD.

Boasting the title of the third largest city in Central Vietnam and as one of the country’s most important ports, the city offers plenty to see and do such as the spectacular Dragon Bridge, the Son Tra peninsula – home to the endangered, red-shanked douc langur monkey, the Cham Museum and, nearby, the My Son temple complex – to name a few. Most importantly it is a dream destination for foodies, with a wide range of quality restaurants offering spectacular delicacies. Find out more about the city here.

Da Nang international airport is the third largest airport in Vietnam and it is accessible via direct flights from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Korea. Flying time from Bangkok (the FIDI conference location) is approx. 1 hr 40 mins with several direct flights per day.

About
Rob Lilwall
Keynote Speaker

Rob Lilwall is a person who, through taking an adventurous attitude to life, has achieved the extraordinary. In the last two decades, he has embarked on expeditions by bicycle and on foot, covering over 80,000 km of the world’s land surface, including across Siberia and the Gobi (in winter), China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, Australia and Iran. National Geographic have made two television series about his exploits, and he is the author of two books, Cycling Home From Siberia and Walking Home From Mongolia.
As a keynote speaker he has inspired tens of thousands of people around the world, with corporate clients including the likes of Nike, Microsoft, HSBC and Thomson Reuters. In his keynote speeches, Rob tells exciting stories of adventure – such as surviving at -40, getting lost in jungles, and pedalling across Afghanistan. But at the same time, he weaves in powerful reflections about the attitudes he has nurtured in order to thrive amid the fear, the uncertainty and the opportunity which he has faced. These attitudes involve embracing challenge, understanding fear, practicing self-care and having a collaborative mindset – all highly relevant for today’s fast changing and unpredictable business environment. For beyond our IQ, qualifications and experience, it is having the right attitudes – the attitudes of adventure - that can make all the difference.

Alamgir Shah
Chairman & CEO, Freeline Movers

Alamgir Shah was born in Pakistan in 1961.

After competing his Bachelors in Political Science and History he went for an internship with a local moving company where he got trained and learnt various aspects of moving. After he completed this successfully he went to Dubai to find a suitable job but since Dubai in those days was so basic he returned to Pakistan to join another moving company. He progressed well however, he was then approached by a newly formed company in 1985 where he worked for about three years before establishing Freeline Movers.

It was finally in 1988 when he started Freeline Movers on a very small scale with a limited budget.
Luckily they acquired some major contracts giving them a good break to stabilise and expand.

Today they are firmly established as one of the most popular moving companies with branches in all major cities of Pakistan including a branch in Kabul, Afghanistan.

All the offices except Kabul are owned by the company including two larges warehouses in Karachi and Islamabad with an adequate fleet of vehicles for each branch.

They are competitively priced with various packages available in terms of the amount of data that can be purchased.

Climate

Weather in March/April will be hot and dry with low levels of humidity.  Average minimum temperatures of 23ºC (73ºF) and highs of 30ºC (86ºF).

Safety

Most visits to Vietnam are trouble free but you should take sensible precautions to protect yourself and your  belongings in big cities and tourist areas. Remain alert to your belongings, particularly in crowded areas.

Healthcare

An anti-gastric or upset stomach remedy is recommended as you may be eating food your system is unused to. We recommend you seek a medical practitioner’s advice on up to date precautionary medicine. It is not recommended that medicines be purchased inside Vietnam. Make sure you have adequate travel health insurance and accessible funds to cover the costs of any medical treatment.

Gratuities

Tipping for service is not expected in Vietnam but is most certainly appreciated. A tip of one or two dollars for a meal or $1 to a driver can be a substantial bonus in a country where the annual average income is only US$ 2,200 (as 2016)! You should tip at your own discretion however we recommend you allow $25 per day for your driver and guide.

Electricity Supply

The electricity voltage of Vietnam is 220 Volts at 50Hz. Plug type A (two flat vertical pins), type C and type F (two round pins) fit most sockets in Vietnam.
