Honouring Joseph Song as he embarks into retirement

A statement from Gus Sunwoo | Asian Tigers Korea

As Joseph steps into a well-deserved retirement today, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey he has had over the past 50 years in
our industry. It’s difficult to put into words the sense of gratitude and admiration I, along with countless others, feel for the legacy you leave behind for your Asian Tigers Korea family.

Joseph’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the early days of starting with nothing but a dream, navigating the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry, to becoming a respected leader and visionary, Joseph has exemplified what it means to be truly dedicated to his craft. Your passion for our industry was evident in every decision you made, every challenge you faced, and every milestone achieved.

Over the decades, Korea, as a nation, its economy, and industries, transformed in ways few could have imagined. Yet, no matter how much things changed, one constant remained: your unwavering commitment to excellence and quality. Your strategic foresight and ability to see the bigger picture have not only driven the success of Asian Tigers Korea but set a benchmark for what it means to be a leader.
Beyond the achievements and accolades, it’s your integrity that stands out the most. In an industry that is often fast-paced and unforgiving, you have remained true to your principles, earning the respect and admiration of peers, partners and competitors. Your word has always been your bond and your reputation as a person of honour will always be a part of your legacy.
To say you have simply been a boss to me would be an understatement. You have been a mentor, a guide, a father figure and an inspiration to all of us who have had the privilege of working with you. Joseph’s leadership style, rooted in integrity, empathy, and an unshakeable belief in the potential of his employees, has shaped the careers of many, including my own.
Your retirement marks the end of an era for Asian Tigers Korea, but also the beginning of a new chapter – one that I hope is filled with the joy of time spent with loved ones, the satisfaction of a career well-lived, and the excitement of the new adventures that lie ahead.
On behalf of everyone who has had the honour of working with you, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your leadership, your wisdom, and your unwavering dedication. Thank you for the opportunities you have created and the countless careers you have launched. Asian Tigers Korea will not be the same without you, but it is undoubtedly better because of you.
Joseph will relocate back closer to his hometown in Jeonju, Korea, where he will find time to relax and catch up with old friends and new hobbies. Joseph will continue to retain his work email address (joseph.song@asiantigers-korea.com) to stay connected with his international friends and peers, while also retaining the title of “Chairman Emeritus” in his daily communication.
With deepest respect and gratitude,
Your Asian Tigers Korea family
